Chief Executive Officer of AshantiGold Fredrick Acheampong is desperate to see his side win the inaugural edition of the J.A Kufour Cup as a reward for all their efforts.
The Miners face their regional rivals Asante Kotoko on Sunday in the game aimed at honouring former Ghana President John Agyekum Kufour.
Acheampong became CEO of AshGold after the takeover of famous businessman Kwaku Frimpong popularly known as ‘Champion’ last year.
The club has since seen several changes with all signals pointing to a positive turn.
A triumph in the Kufour Cup will however epitomize all the efforts being put into the club according to their CEO.
“Since we took over the club, we have done a lot. We need something significant to show for that,” Acheampong told the media.
“The game against Kotoko gives us a perfect opportunity to win our first trophy since we took over the club.
“Choosing us to play Kotoko is the best decision taken by the organizers because we are the only club who can beat them and exploit their weaknesses ahead of their trip to Cameroon [for Kotoko’s CAF Confederation Cup match against Coton Sport].”
Proceeds of the game will be channeled towards The John A. Kufour Foundation as part of a grand plan to raise a whopping Ghc 80m to spearhead various charity projects.
