Winning bonuses to Black Sticks

Accra, Oct. 14, GNA - Thirty-six players of the senior national hockey teams (male and female) and their technical handlers were each presented with special prize money on Wednesday on their arrival at the Kotoka International Airport from South Africa where they won silver and bronze respectively at the just-ended African Hockey Cup of Nations.

The ladies who lost 1-6 to host, South Africa, in the finals each received 300 dollars while their male counterparts each took home 200 dollars for being bronze medallists.

While in South Africa, each player of the male team received 400 dollars as winning bonuses after thrashing Namibia 5-0 and beating Nigeria 2-0 in the third place match.

The ladies unfortunately missed out on the winning bonuses as they failed to win a single match.

The team is due to meet the Minister of Education and Sports, Yaw Osafo Marfo on Tuesday, October 18.
