Women' soccer teams in Tamale Metropolis receive support

Tamale, Nov. 15, GNA - Mr. Samuel Donkor, Vice Chairman of the Ghana Women League Board on Tuesday said the Ghana Football Association (GFA) was committed to ensure the development of women soccer in the country.

He said women soccer was gaining attention in the world and as such FIFA has put a 'standing budget' for the development of female soccer in developing countries.

Mr. Donkor said this when he presented 12 footballs and Goil fuel coupons worth about 7,059,000 cedis to the Northern Region Women Soccer Committee in Tamale on Tuesday. The balls were meant for the female gala matches while the fuel coupons were to be used to fuel vehicles to honour gala matches in the Region.

He advised the registered seven female soccer teams in the Region to strive harder to achieve more laurels since the GFA was extending its programme tyo parts of the country to unearth talents to join the National Women Soccer Team, The Black Queens. Ms Salifatu Musah, chairperson of the Northern Region Women Soccer Committee who received the items lamented the frustration the existing female teams were going through and called for financial assistance. Mr. Gabriel Yaw Messodey, Northern Region Sports Development Officer expressed gratitude to the GFA for trying to help raise women soccer in the country and that the Region was endowed with women footballers.
