Yaw Preko calls for calm ahead of Gabon qualifier

Ghana Under-20 assistant coach Yaw Preko has warned against pressing the panic button ahead of the side’s trip to Gabon for the decisive qualifier for the 2015 African Youth Championship.

The Ghanaians have their work cut out for them after being held to a disappointing goalless draw at home two weeks ago.

They leave for Libreville on Wednesday night with only one mission – to secure qualification to next year’s championship in Senegal.

Ghana assistant coach Yaw Preko has called for calm in the wake of the growing apprehension among local fans.

“We have to be patient and don’t get discouraged. We have been in such situations in the past and have managed to surmount the challenge,” he said

“We know our destiny is in our own hands and so we have to take it.

“We want to qualify to the African Youth Championship and the only way to do that is to negotiate a win past Gabon.

“It’s going to be very difficult but I believe we can do it. We don’t need to panic and take the game as it comes.”

The Black Satellites clinched silver at the 2013 African Youth Championship in Algeria and went ahead to win bronze at the World Championship in Turkey.
