Ghana Premier League legend Charles Taylor has expressed doubts about the feasibility of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s promises for the sports sector, questioning why the vice president has not been able to implement these policies if he believes in them.

In an interview with Angel TV, Charles Taylor posited that while the promises look positive, he doubts their sincerity as the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party has, in his view, not shown any sign of implementing these ideas.

The former Hearts of Oak forward holds that it is an insult to the administrators in the sporting sector that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has not proposed these ideas to them in the last seven years that he has been in government.

“The promises are good, but I know they won't work. He is the vice president; why can't he do it now? You know there's something wrong with our sport, and you have the power to address it. Why do you have to wait for things to get out of hand? Then it's an insult to the person. It shows that you don't think well for the person.

“Our football is on a downward trend, and you believe you have the knowledge to help revive it. Why can't you proffer those solutions to those in charge now for them to address it?” he quizzed.

In the NPP’s manifesto launched on Sunday, August 18, 2024, the party promised to get a bus for each of the 18 Ghana Premier League clubs and also construct a stadium in Sunyani.

Dr. Bawumia also said that his government will start an “Operation Olympics Glory” programme by dedicating resources towards the preparation and readiness of athletes for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA.

As part of the Operation Olympics Glory Programme, Dr. Bawumia revealed that, "where necessary," his government will target specific sports for medals.

As part of a broader sports development vision, Dr. Bawumia also announced the establishment of a Ghana School Sports Secretariat as a special purpose vehicle to drive the sustainable development of grassroots sports through the schools, in collaboration with stakeholders such as the Ghana Education Service and sports federations.
