You need more than just talent to be successful - Samuel Owusu to young players

Black Stars and Al-Fayha winger Samuel Owusu has advised young footballers to look beyond their talent if they want to reach higher heights in their footballing careers.

The Saudi based player sent out this piece of advise during a zoom virtual meeting hosted by his boyhood club Vision fc over the weekend.

Owusu noted that many young footballers have had their careers hit a snags due to over-reliance on talent adding that skill is just not enough.

"Young players ought to be respectful, determined and put in an extra shift to succeed at the top level."

Owusu adds that being sidelined for up to eight months where he eventually had his contract terminated in Turkey was one of the difficult moments in his career.

Quizzed on the impact of racism in football and if he has been a victim of racial abuse in his playing career he said;

"Yes I have been racially abused on a few occasions especially during my playing days in Serbia."

"It is obviously an unpleasant experience and you need that mental toughness to overcome it."

"The Owusu Project" a foundation set up by the midfielder to get involved in charitable works have received plaudits from the public.

The President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon Okraku who was closely monitoring the discussion via Facebook Live said Samuel's support towards the fight against Covid-19 is commendable adding that" Ghana appreciates it."
