Zamalek secured the 2024 CAF Super Cup in a thrilling penalty shootout victory over rivals Al Ahly after a 1-1 draw at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh on Friday night.

The "White Knights" triumphed 4-3 on penalties, claiming their fifth Super Cup title.

Al Ahly started strong and took the lead just before halftime. Wessam Abou Ali coolly converted a penalty in the 44th minute after a VAR review confirmed a foul by Zamalek’s Hamza Mathlouthi on Akram Tawfik.

Zamalek, however, fought back in the second half, steadily growing into the game. Their persistence was rewarded in the 77th minute when substitute Naser Mansy scored just one minute after coming on. He finished off a brilliant cross from Omar Gaber to level the score.

Both teams pushed for a winner, with Al Ahly nearly snatching it in the final moments, but Rami Rabia’s header went over the bar.

The match was then decided by penalties. Al Ahly’s Yahia Attiyat Allah missed, and Abou Ali hit the post, giving Zamalek the advantage.

Hossam Abdelmaguid calmly slotted home the winning penalty, sealing a dramatic victory for Zamalek.
