Maputo, Wednesday
THE Zambian chess team managed to put some smiles on the Team Zambia contingent at the on-going All Africa Games here in Mozambique after defeating Ghana 4-0 to share an overnight lead with South Africa after first round games played at the CC Banco Moc in the outskirts of the capital city.
And the badminton team open their All Africa Games account on Friday in the individual category after failing to take part in the mixed team events because Zambia did not carry a female team to Maputo.
The Zambian chess team of Stanley Chumufya on board one, Daniel Jere on board two, Richmond Phiri on three and Chitumbo Mwali on four, were in an uncompromising mood, winning all their matches to finish the day as the only two high scoring winners with South Africa.
Zambia are expected to play South Africa later today in a team event match, with coach Kuchunga Simusamba expressing confidence that his team would perform well.
