AfCFTA boss’ Covid results stirring controversy

Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area , Wamkele K. Mene Secretary General of the African Continental Free Trade Area , Wamkele K. Mene

Following a statement by the Secretariat of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) that its Secretary General, Wamkele Mene, was issued a false Covid-19 test result at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), the Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Thursday insisted that the information is not accurate.

The Service explained in a statement that any person who tests positive at KIA proceeds on a mandatory 7-day isolation at a government-designated facility or hotel and would be tested again before being discharged in case he tests negative.

According to the Service, any Covid-19 tests, therefore, conducted after the positive test at KIA at a different facility would not be recognised.

But the statement by AfCFTA insisted that it cannot be the case that Wamkele Mene will test positive as he had taken the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine just two weeks ago.

He also tested negative at two independent facilities – LEDing Medical Laboratory and the Trust Hospital in Osu.
