Allow Nigerians to carry licensed AK-47s to protect themselves – Governor

Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku

The Governor of Taraba State, Darius Ishaku has opined that Nigerians should be given the liberty to carry firearms to defend themselves.

Mr. Ishaku made the call when he received 15 local government chairmen in his residence on Wednesday, February 3, 2021.

This follows the security challenges that have faced the country in recent times.

Ishaku noted that security in the country has gone to the minimum level and we need to wake up and face the situation on the ground, Daily Times reports.

He said since leaders cannot provide security for their citizens, then all citizens should be allowed to own a licensed gun.

He did not just say gun but specified the type of gun. Ishaku said citizens should be allowed to buy AK-47s to protect themselves adding that if everyone has a gun, no one will want to invade their homes.

Similarly, Governor Ortom of Benue State had also called on the Federal Government to allow him and other Nigerians to own a licensed AK-47 to defend themselves against killer herdsmen.

The governor noted that if a herdsman knows that you have a gun, he will not want to attack you.
