It appears Drake has Nigerian blood flowing through his veins after he took to his Instagram Stories to share a screenshot of his father’s DNA ancestry test results. The test, which the Nothing Was the Same rapper’s father took on Ancestry.com, showed that he is 30% Nigerian, while his Cameroonian, Congolese, and Western Bantu heritage is 28%.

Besides being 11% Ghanaian and Ivorian, the tests also showed Dennis Graham has Malian, Togolese, and Beninese roots. “This is my dad’s results,” the Grammy award-winning rapper wrote in the post. “Does this mean I’m a Naija man finally?”

Drake’s father is African-American while his mother is White. The Canadian rapper was only five years old when his parents divorced. After going their separate ways, Drake lived with his mother in Canada while his dad relocated to Memphis.

The DNA ancestry test results Drake shared also add up to other Black celebrities revealing they have Nigerian heritage. In 2020, rapper Lil Wayne disclosed his ancestry test result showed he is 53% Nigerian. Meghan Markle last year also said she discovered that she is “43% Nigerian” during an episode of her Spotify-exclusive podcast, Archetypes.

The Duchess of Sussex told Nigerian-American talk show host, Ziwe Fumudoh, that she discovered her mixed-race heritage includes being Nigerian after genealogical testing “a couple of years ago.” Markle’s mother is African American and her father is Caucasian.

“I’m going to start to dig deeper into all this because anybody that I’ve told, especially Nigerian women, are like ‘What!?’” Markle said, when asked if she knew the tribe her ancestors were from.

Ziwe also indicated that the discovery was “huge for our community”. “No, honestly, you do look like a Nigerian, you look like my aunt Uzo. So this is great,” Ziwe told Markle.
