Reports state that suspected members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), formerly known as Jam'at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da'wah wa'l-Jihd went about towns in Borno and Yobe to distribute Ramadan welfare packages to some residents.

Items distributed include bags of rice, beans, millet, sugar, spaghetti, maize and cash.

According to sources, the intention for the distribution was to lure residents into joining the groups.

“Imagine, they (insurgents) claimed that the gesture was aimed at assisting villagers to perform Ramadan fast and Sallah with ease and happiness, the same villagers they killed their friends and family members,” the source said.
