A Nigerian police sergeant has received lots of commendation on social media after it emerged that he returned a sum of 1.2 million naira (close to $3,000) recovered from an accident scene.

Officer Kabiru Isah returned the amount to his superiors in the north central Kano State.

Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed that the officer belonged to the command’s Motor Traffic Division (MTD).

“The police officer returned N1,294,200 found at the scene of the fatal accident,” he said.

Aside the social media praise, the Managing Director of Kano Road Traffic Agency (KAROTA), Mr Baffa Dan-Agundi, also rewarded Isah with N100,000 (about $250) as reward for his honesty and dedication to duty.

Meanwhile, Kano State Commissioner of Police, Sama’ila Dikko, has since handed over the money to the relatives of the deceased and called on police personnel and residents of the state to emulate Isah’s good deed.



How accident victim died

Officer Isah encountered the victim while conducting analysis at an accident scene on the Kano-Zaria Road.

An articulated vehicle had knocked down the motorcycle rider, who died on the spot, the victim was in possession of the money packed in a box.
