Police in South Africa’s commercial hub, Johannesburg, are investigating the circumstances of a street gathering suspected to have been held over the weekend, Times Live reports.
Those in attendance were seen openly flouting safety measures intended to limit the spread of coronavirus, including social distancing and wearing of face masks.
Videos and photos of the gathering shared on social media also showed some people openly consuming alcohol – which was banned.
Gauteng province police commissioner Lieut-Gen Elias Mawela is reported to have ordered an investigation into the incident.
