Some gunmen were said to have invaded Gora Gan community in the Zango-Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State and killed seven locals among them a 70-year-old man and a six-year-old girl.

It was gathered that four among those killed during the incident which happened Thursday night were members of the same family.

Also, about 13 houses and two shops were razed by the gunmen who came in large numbers and shot into the community around 800pm local time. Scores of persons sustained injuries during the attacks.

A government statement on Friday confirmed and condemned the attack. It added that the government was informed of another sporadic shooting on the Fadan Kagoma-Kwoi Road in Jema’a Local Government Area on Friday.

It noted that a driver was shot by the gunmen but had been stabilised while Governor Nasir El-Rufai had ordered an investigation into the shooting

The statement was titled, ‘KDSG condemns attack on Gora Gan community as El-Rufai directs immediate relief intervention.’

According to the statement, the state Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Mr Samuel Aruwan, said security operatives informed the government of the attack.

Aruwan said as troops repelled the attackers, they recovered seven bodies of the victims.

The commissioner listed the names of those killed to include: Peter Akaho (70), Ayuba Steven Sheyin (67), Jummai Ayuba (55), Ishaya Joel (35), Yakubu Saviour (14), Ayuba Goodluck (11) as well as a six-year-old Patience Ayuba.

The statement quoted the governor as condemning the attack and directed aid workers to take inventory of destruction and immediately providing relief materials to the affected community.

The statement read in part, “Security agencies, comprising the military and police, reported that Gora Gan community was attacked on several fronts, including the market area and houses stretching towards the Tudun Wada area of Gora Gan. Troops of Operation Safe Haven, Special Forces of the Defence Headquarters and police personnel are trailing the attackers."
