French President Emmanuel Macron has stressed that his country does not want a world war. His views are connected to the Russia - Ukraine conflict that has been on since February 24, 2022; and which conflict has escalated in the last few days with Russian bombardments of towns in Ukraine. "We help Ukraine to resist on its soil, never to attack Russia. Vladimir Putin must end this war and respect the territorial integrity of Ukraine," Macron said in a tweet dated October 12. The United Nations General Assembly on Wednesday voted to condemn Russian annexation of Ukrainian territories in a referendum weeks ago. Moscow went ahead with the controversial move despite opposition at the United Nations level, hence the vote to condemn and reject the action which has since been 'regularized' by Russia. The outcome of the vote was as follows: 143 YES, 35 ABSTENTIONS and 5 NO. It effectively means that the international community still sees the four regions of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia as Ukrainian territories. "UN General Assembly overwhelmingly adopts resolution calling on countries to reject Russia's attempted annexation of four regions of Ukraine following disputed referendums held late last month," a UN statement after the vote read.
