President of the United States, Joe Biden, has hinted that he could attend an African Union heads of state and government summit soon.
In Biden’s first message to the African Union, AU; he stressed the mutual partnership that his administration offered before adding that despite the challenges, he was sure the partnership will thrive.
“I hope I can be with you next time in person,” Biden said in a video posted on the White House social media handles on February 5.
The 2 minutes 15 seconds video came ahead of the 34th summit of African leaders later this month. Biden touched on a number of issues ranging from the US’ commitment to reengage with its international partners in a multilateral manner.
He spoke about cooperation in the areas of diplomacy, security and climate stressing that under his administration, America will be a partner, “in solidarity, support and mutual respect. We believe in the nations of Africa and the continent-wide spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation.”
Biden’s predecessor, Donald Trump, became the first US president to not have traveled to Africa throughout his tenure in office, i.e. 2017 – 2021. His daughter Ivanka and wife Melania were the only Trumps to have visited Africa during the period.
