YAWC 2024: Ghana’s EOCO boss confirms attendance

The Executive Director of the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), Ghana, Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, has confirmed her attendance at this year’s edition of the Young African Women’s Congress (YAWC) Annual Global Convocation.

Confirming the news, Founder and Executive Chairperson of the YAWC Network, Mr. Daniel Osei Tuffuor, said the celebrated law enforcement officer, would be speaking at the event which is scheduled to take place in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, between October 27 and 31.

The Young African Women Congress (YAWC) Network is a fraternity of young women of African descent living in Africa and in the diaspora who seek to be empowered and be themselves, change-makers for leadership and development on the continent.

At the heart of its mandate is the mobilisation of women from the grassroots level for leadership and development through advocacy, training and projects.

The theme for this year’s edition is “Enhancing Women’s Economic Empowerment through Innovation and Technology”.

Mrs. Addo-Danquah comes on board the event with her wealth of experience in leadership having served in various capacities in and out of the Ghana Police Service; and her course to impact positively the next generation of African leaders, particularly young Africa women.

With an estimated attendance of about 1,500 young women from across the continent and in the diaspora, it is expected that Mrs. Addo-Danquah’s achievements, expertise and professionalism in her service to Ghana and Africa, would be brought to bear for the benefit of both participants and other speakers.

Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah is a Commissioner of Police (COP), having served for over 30 years, with twenty of those years focused on financial crime detection and investigation duties at the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, as well as in other agencies in both the public and private sectors.

She is a Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Forensic Accountant with a Master of Business Administration (Finance Option) Degree from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana.

She was the Director of the Commercial Crime Unit of the CID as well as the Director of CID Trainings for a cumulative period of over three years.

Being the first Commandant of the Ghana Police Command and Staff College, Winneba – the highest training institution of the Ghana Police Service – she has held various positions in the Service including Administrator for the Ghana Police Hospital; Head of Finance, Police Headquarters; and Deputy Director-General, Police Intelligence and Professional Standards Bureau.

She was also the first woman to be appointed Deputy Director-General, and later Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department of the Service, since its inception in 1948; and also held the position of Director-General, of the Welfare Department as well as the Police Professional Standards Bureau of the Service.

On the international front, she has also served in the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) among others.

Mrs. Addo Danquah is a Fellow of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (FCCA); an Associate Member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (ACFE); and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (FCA), Ghana.

She is currently a guest resource person at the GIMPA Business School, E-Crime Academy; the Institute of Chartered Accountants Ghana, Management Development and Productivity Institute (MDPI), and the University of Cape Coast, Department of Forensics.

She is the President of the Ghana Police Ladies Association and former president of the Association of Women Accountants, Ghana.
