Ahoney Man Makes His Entry

The hiplife scene is undoubtedly the most vibrant in the local music industry with new entrants coming up almost on daily basis. One of such entrants is Godfrey Allotey-Mensah known in showbiz circles as Ahoney Man.

Ahoney Man may not be so new having given it a shot with two earlier highlife albums which did not do too well. It is a good thing that he switched to hiplife with his third attempt ?Otofo? because the young man is gaining some appreciable recognition.

He has made a couple of appearances on TV3?s Music Music backed by ladies who dress traditionally to portray ?Otofo? urges all to go back to tradition and stop copying other cultures.

As the lyrics in the song Otofo goes, ?come back to your traditional dance?, just like the lyrics, the instrumentation also has a traditional touch. Otofo features Bak 2 Bak, a trio who were very instrumental in the making of the album and to whom Ahoney expresses gratitude.

Ahoney Man goes into a ragga mood with the song that follows ?Men Hwe Obi Asa?, literally meaning I don?t copy another  person?s dance. He urges listeners to concentrate on what they are good at and try to imitate others.

Side A ends with Ga song that says ?Ee Ba Moko Tsine?, the message here simply says that in life some get things in abundance while others don?t get any and sometimes those in need do not get what they want while the same things overflow for others who may not even need them.

The flipside of the album opens with ?Eegnoo Na Kpakpa?, another one in Ga and Twi in which a lover rejoices in the fact that he is dearly loved by his woman inspite of what observers say, the drums are very dominant in the heavily traditional instrumentation this song boasts of.

The story of a comeback lover is told in ?Ashi Wo?. A man leaves his wife when times get rough only to come back after some time to plead with her to take him back, its now time for the woman to bluff because she does not have any intention of going back.

?Ahurusi?, featuring the late Terry Bonchaka and ?Meba? follow to close the album. The album, a Honey Entertainment production is being distributed by Lucky Sounds.

Ahoney who says he went into hiplife because it is dominating added, ?hiplife is improving, only few are copying foreign beats?. He says he hopes to be in music in a long time and eventually become a music engineer having started his own label Honey Entertainment.

Ahoney Man told showbiz, that he chose the name because it stands for someone who is loving, caring, honest, patient and understanding. He comes from Osu-Alata and likes listening to music and hanging out with friends.
