Bessa Simon Others Celebrate Mac Tontoh

Highlife music star Bessa Simon, who is also a member of the Osibisa Band, last Sunday performed alongside some selected musical groups at a ceremony organized to celebrate the one year anniversary of the late Mac Tontoh.

A number of musicians, including members of Osibisa and friends, were spotted at the ceremony. The ceremony did not attract a large number of music stakeholders as anticipated.

Some of the musicians including Bessa Simon, the Warriors Band, fans and old students of Prempeh College sang hymns and paid tribute to the late Mac Tontoh. Bessa Simon and the Warriors Band performed most of Osibisa’s hit songs at the ceremony.

Mac Tontoh, who was a founding member of Osibisa, died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on August 16 last year after a long struggle with a number of illnesses including stroke and diabetes.

In a tribute read by Joe Tontoh, a younger brother of the late Mac Tontoh, he said that Mac was a man who showed drive, imagination and positive thinking in all his endeavours. He said since infancy, the deceased showed a great deal of interest in music and it was just a delight to watch him sing.

He recounted some of the memorable moments he shared with his brother. He noted that independence and self-reliance were some of the values his late brother taught him.
