When he sang at his wedding almost three years ago, he did it so well together with his bride that a caption in the showbiz predicted that Samuel Ebo Kwaitoo was going make it in the music industry.
Today, his debut album Judah album, Judah Praise Volume 1, backed by The Levities is doing very well on the market. Most of the songs are from the Methodist Hymn Book, Christian Asor Ndwom and other popular songs.
34 year old Samuel is a sports journalist whose entry into gospel music does not come as a surprise to those who know him very well. He is the Praise and Worship leader at the Calvary Methodist Church, Agona Swedru in the Central Region.
No wonder his wake-up call to go professional came while in the mood of worship on November 15 last year. ??I never thought of coming out with an album but the message dropped while I was singing on that day. I know it when he speaks because I have been walking him for a long time,? says Samuel who says he became born-again in 1990 and there has been no turning back since then.
How does Samuel hope to survive in the highly competitive world of gospel music? ?I?m not in to compete, my ultimate dream is that God will use this album to draw people closer to him, whatever impact he wants me to make for whatever purpose he called me should be fulfilled.?
Samuel says his desire is to lead people to the saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and he is grateful to God that it is on course. Coming from a teacher of the word, can anyone doubt him?
The songs are done in Fanti and English with Side A taking care off all the Fanti songs. The listener ends up singing along most of the songs without even realising it, goes to show how very popular they.
Nyinpa A Mowo Wiase opens the album followed by Sumsum Sore, a very popular praise song. It does not take long to realise that Ebo Kwaitoo sings with so much passion, from deep within. The Levites who back Samuel are made up of members of Voices of Judah (a group he formed in 1995) and some members of his church who are not members of the group.
They are very impressive with Mrs. Gifty Kwaitoo (Samuel?s soulmate) and Christiana Quayson standing out with the Soprano.
Mekra Hyira No, Yekotow Wo, Christofo, Gyidifo, Efirese Oye and Nehumobrotsim ho daa are all popular songs on Side A.
?This is my story, this is my song, praising my saviour all the day long??very familiar isn?t it? This is how he opens Side B of the album with famous Blessed Assurance still in a very solemn and prayer mood.
I?ll Bless Thee O Lord, Holy, Holy, Holy Holy, Father I Adore Him You and O Come Let?s Adore Him followed in that order to complete the album which Ebo dedicates to the Almighty God for his grace and inspiration, his mum Susana Dufu, daughter Ama Tutuwaa Kwaitoo and the entire Kwaitoo family.
Impressive piece of work by Samuel Ebo Kwaitoo, perhaps he will give listeners a bit variety next time around. Since the songs are mainly for Praise and Worship, they all tend to be solemn, having the same tempo.
Samuel?s mother comes from Gomoa Manso, near Swedru while his father is from Agona Duakwa. He is not busy running around and getting news for Graphic Sports, he loves to play football or do what he probably loves best, sharing the word of God.
He cannot tell when he will release his next album but simply puts it this way, ?Anything He calls, I?ll respond.?
Throughout the chat with Showbiz, Samuel was full of thank him enough for picking me this far, I always count my blessings.?
To very Rev. Ebenezer Abaka-Wilson, a superintendent minister of the Swedru Circuit of the Methodist Church, Samuel expressed genuine gratitude for his immense support that has made it possible for him to come this far.
