C. O. Lewis He possesses talent in abundance, and anybody who has seen him perform will attest to this fact. He has been on the scene for a long time though he is young but it has taken Media Whizz Kids to discover C.O. Lewis talent and bring it out in full scale.
C.O. Lewis is the Hiplife Champion for 2002 and this should be enough indication that something hot is again about to hit the hiplife scene.
One cannot forget the first hiplife champion for 2001, the late Terry Bonchaka who injected a fresh burst of energy into the already charged hiplife scene.
He introduced a different style and his performances have become legendary.
Well C.O is a product of the hiplife competition but at the same time he was a very close friend of Terry so people can expect him to also be as hot as Terry was.
C.O went professional in 1996 with other hiplife artistes like Okomfo Kwadee, Kontihene, Obour, Abortion and of course Terry and they performed at major events together. These artistes all went on to become stars and now it is the 20-year old?s turn.
His love for what he is doing is very evident and he changed schools several times because of that. The reason being that he was dismissed by most of the schools he attended as a result of going out of campus to perform at events in other schools and other places.
His first secondary school was St. Peters? Secondary School at Kwahu, Nkwatia. While there, his sneaking out of school to perform which naturally affected his academic work led to his teachers advising him and eventually warning him to be serious.
He still did not heed to this and his parents were written to as the final warning. The final straw was when he was taken by some of his seniors to perform at St. Roses Girls School in Akwatia. When he got back, his dismissal letter was waiting for him.
Then he went to Ghanatta Secondary School at Dodowa and the story was no different. What led to him being dismissed from Ghanatta was infact an invitation by Terry to perform at Adisadel College in Cape Coast. Again when he got back he was dismissed. After Ghanatta, the other schools he went to are uncountable.
Hear him ?I did all that because of the passion I have for music or rap to be specific. I simply love it and I wouldn?t mind going through all that again if I will still have my music?.
Two years after he won, he is now out with his debut album Wa?landi. Wa?landi is very significant to the artiste because it embodies all that he has been through till now.
?I chose the title because even though I have been able to come out on my own, but finally it?s happened so I want people to know that I have landed like the eagle, with something new?.
Wa?landi is an eight track album with both eight on CD and cassette. Most of the songs are fast paced and are bound to be enjoyed by his fans.
New Style is a fast paced that will capture people?s attention not so much for the rhythm but for the lyrics which will appeal to people with a twisted sense of humour. This is because he takes serious issues and makes them appear funny. He says that if you find a policeman taking bribes, it should not surprised or scare you because it is a new style.
Or when you find a taxi driver taking overload, a passenger fighting with a driver, a girl wearing a seriously split skirt or anything we see as serious, it should not be surprising because they are all new styles. This song will be an easy favourite of many people because of its danceable nature.
Obaa Zaa is also another song with funny lyrics too. This song has little children singing the chorus which is very good. He deceived by a girl he never sings about how he has met her, what transpired and its aftermath.
In the mid-tempo vein, it will appeal to people again because of the lyrics. He has quite a way of going on about the girl that will make people laugh.
Wa?landi the title track of the album and which features Cy Lover starts with the tune of an old highlife song but with his own lyrics. The chorus is also done by little children. On that track, he talks about his arrival and what will happen to the scene, his capabilities among others. Of course there is the usual exaggeration element there.
Other songs on the album are Ewiase featuring Cosby, Abrabo, Paulina and the remix of New Style. C.O Lewis has indeed landed with this album which is sure to get him noticed by all. Something new is about to happen and the Stage Miracle as he calls is behind it all.
