Chemphe out

Young singer and songwriter Chemphe, who has introduced what he calls Urban Life, a fusion of soulful R&B vocals and grooves from Ghana, would launch his second album at the Coconut Groove Regency Hotel in Accra on Sunday.

In an interview with Beatwaves, he said his next release was not an album and rather, “a social reasonability project”.

“This is not my second album as you see it or people call it. I am considering this a social responsibility project instead.”

Titled, “Why you dey treat am bad”, the project, he indicated, was to support the fight against Domestic Violence, an issue he said was dear to his heart.

Thus, the launching, to be organized in collaboration with the Ministry of Women and Children’s Affairs is scheduled for the international day of eliminating all forms domestic violence, which falls on Sunday.

In attendance would be Hajia Alima Mahama, the Minister in charge of Women and Children’s Affairs.

Chemphe indicated that at the launch there would not be what other artistes usually referred to as ‘fireworks’; rather, “there will be a passionate appeal for society to resist violence.”

The project has on CD ten different tracks with a few remixes. He featured top artistes such as Wutah, Tinny, Castro and Scooby of TH4 Kwagees, to help him carry the message of peace to fans.

Apart from the message on domestic violence, Chempe said “the message I like to carry across is that let us live in peace and harmony. We should love each other. So if we love each other then we don’t have to fight each other.”

The artistes, after the launching, would embark on a nationwide tour to continue singing against domestic violence.

Chemphe is inspired by love, life and relationships. This was emphasized in his debut album titled ‘No Pampanaa’. In ‘No Pampanaa’, which was also the title track, Chemphe talks about love and commitment.

The message in the song was; “If you love somebody, you should let the person know how much they mean to you and not play games with their heart”.

The singer told Beatwaves that he gets inspiration from top international stars like R. Kelly, Craig David, Usher, Joe, and Donnell Jones, as well as local legends like Kojo Antwi and Paapa Yankson.
