Ghana Music Awards 2004 Artiste of the year? Album of the Year? Song of the Year? The biggest questions in Ghana Music will be answered this very Saturday March 13, 2004 at the 5th Ghana Music Awards Show scheduled for the Accra International Conference Centre.
74 nominees (event statistician KPMG latest trim), 40 different artistes and only 20 eventual winners - including the Technical Engineer of the Year.
According to the event organisers, the show will be segmented into three parts. The first will be the presentation of a large portion of the awards.
Brenda Fassie performing live Then the main Live gigs follow. Nana Tuffour, Abrantie Amakye Dede, Princess Cynthia, V.I.P, Obrafour, Daughters of Glorious Jesus and the bad girl of South Africa, Brenda Fassie takes the fun into the next morning. Nicknamed "Madonna" after the provocative American pop star, Fassie, 39, is expected to do not less than an hour-and-a-half of dramatic stage work and frenetic dance show. And if, some of the raucous tales we hear about her is anything to go by, fans are to expect a few more explicit acts from the Queen of Kwaito.
A few other awards will be given in between the live performances and the big three; Song of the Year, Album of the Year and Artiste of the Year left for the later part of the 6-hour ?mother of all music shows in Ghana?.
Abrantie Amakye Dede also on the bill Prior to the gig, at exactly 6pm, all the nominees will be gathered at the Novotel Hotel, Accra on Saturday for a pre-show meet-up. This, I believe is aimed at making sure all the nominees (winners or losers) were present at the show, and on time to forestall past instances where a winner is mentioned and no one appears on stage to receive the award. At exactly 7pm, four long-stretched Limousines courtesy Alpha Limousine Services will whisk away all the nominees and performing artistes to the Accra International Conference Centre for the real show down.
This year, unlike the past four editions, the Artist of the Year, (instead of song of the Year) gets the chance to perform at the next Kora Music Awards in December this year. However, the Song of the Year will represent Ghana as a nominee at same Kora.
MCs for the show are Kwame Sefa Kayi and KOD of Radio Gold. Tickets for the show, which are running like gold are going for ?250,000 ($27) and ?300,000 ($32) for reserved seats.
