Ghanaian artistes perform for peace

After several weeks of preparation following the launch of the Ghana First Peace Train, the train has taken off with several live musical concerts with the aim of educating Ghanaians to maintain peace during and after the elections.

The peace campaign kicked off at Bolgatanga and Bawku with a massive concert that saw a large number of Ghanaian artistes live on stage.

The nationwide event, being organized by the United Ghanaian Artistes for Peace (UGAP), features all the winners of the prestigious MUSIGA 2007 Awards and other leading Ghanaian artistes, who have produced a Peace Song titled ‘We Love Peace’ which is gradually becoming a hit.

Some of the popular names on the peace train are Diana Hopeson, Amandzeba Nat Brew, Shasha Marley, Kwaw Kese (Abodam), Adane Best, Ohemaa Mercy, Chemphe, 5 Five, Spirit, Wutah, Kitchen, Blaq Swede, Sherifatu Gunu, Rev. Lenny Akpade, Grace Ashy, Ceasar, Slow Gem, Phillipa Baafi, Jane and Irene, Reggy Zippy, Isaac, Cee, Ampong, A.B. Crentsil, Patty, Okuraseni Samuel, Jerry Borketey, and the indomitable King Ayisoba.

With less than two months to Ghana’s landmark presidential and parliamentary elections, many Ghanaians and friends of Ghana have had cause to worry about the country’s ability to remain the beacon of peace in a stormy region.

According to Nana Adwoa Awindor, the tireless CEO of Premier Productions and live-wire of this initiative, it has taken a lot of hard work and dedication to come this far, “and I would like to use this opportunity to call for support from all to enable the Train to travel across the country with the message of Peace”.

As to what should be expected during the peace tours, Nana Adwoa mentions peace walks, peace messages, cultural and musical performances, poetry recitals, drama, and a ‘Sing for Peace’ competition.

The final event is slated for the Independence Square, Accra on November 29, 2008, and will be done in collaboration with GBC and President Obuor.
