Hip-Life Music Seminar 2004

Rab International with Lord Kenya
"Hip-pop is a movement, a sub-culture where "Hip-life" is defined only by the parameters of Music. This music genre includes derivatives of R-n-B, Rap, Highlife and Traditional ethnic rhythms. Rap and R-n-B singers are pervasive in Hip-Life Music." This quote is attributed to Rab Bakari (The International), one of the brains behind the upcoming Hiplife Music Seminar.

Interview with Ghana Music.Com, the organisers said that the Hip-Life Music Seminar (HLMS) will provide music-making opportunities for the youth who mainly have the talent and targeting those who would otherwise not have the opportunity.

Through its open programmes, partnership work and strategic measures, the HLMS aims to develop and implement a Nation-Wide strategy to support youth music making that will:

Establish a legacy of music making opportunities Improve the overall standards of music-making Champion the values of music-making - proving that music has a positive effect on the youth in advancing educational and social development Establish music-making opportunities as  force for regeneration in communities, fostering social inclusion and community cohesion

Roger Kubi [RJ], CEO-HLMS & TRAK MASTAS INTERNATIONAL also noted that since the birth of Hip-Life by 'His Excellency, the President REGGIE ROCKSTONE', this genre has come to stay. Hip-Life Music Seminar will continue to be a strategic facilitator. He also said that there were many excellent examples of music-making provision-individuals and organisations with a wealth of experience and with vision. He hoped that these individuals and organisations will work together to build on the best and break new grounds.

HLMS will support music-making that fulfils three key objectives and delivers these objectives by offering funding, information and advice;

ACCESS - For those with least opportunities BREADTH - Music of all styles and all cultures COVERAGE - Rural, Urban, Coastal and Ghana-Wide

HLMS also aims to support wider aspects of music-making through funding, training for music leaders, as well as working strategically to bring together partnership organisations from across the music, education and social sectors.

In its advocacy role, HLMS aims to encourage the debate concerning music-making activities for the youth.

It will also be designed to honour the big names in the industry and also give thanks and recognition to the people behind the scenes in the industry. Without these people behind them (the Artists), the big names will never occur. The Hip-Life Music scene owes them a debt of gratitude for aiding the development of the industry.
