Ghanaian hiplife music lovers have for some years yearned and prayed for local hiplife music stars who can move the music industry in Ghana forward with their music, and also rub shoulders with the best on the world market.
A young, energetic and dynamic hiplife music duo, rePLAY, which was discovered and groomed a few years ago, is out with its maiden album, ‘Simi Rap Remix.’
‘Simi Rap Remix’, on which the duo featured Gyedu-Blay Ambolley, with his raglife rap, is a mid-tempo hiplife song often referred to as music for the masses, and which is yet to enjoy massive air play on the local fm stations throughout the country.
This fusion of good drum beats, the sound of foot drums and base and rhythm guitar which are felt in the background, make the song irresistibly danceable.
The group’s contribution to the music industry in Ghana would undoubtedly add to the rich repertoire of musical works that the country already has.
The hit single is uniquely mixed with a taste of Europe, a twist of America, and a squeeze of Africa, all stirred up to create a colorful and powerful sound of fusion.
According to the members of the group, they are generally more concentrated on hiplife combined with raglife music, but their style is superb. All their songs have highly sensitive themes.
A source close to the group told BEATWAVES that although the group is new on the music scene, its main aim was to reach the top of the ladder, adding that the group also prayed that they would make it to the international music market.
Asked why it took the members of the group so long to come out with an album, the source said the group didn’t believe in coming out with just any album, adding that it was important that the songs became hit songs on the market, and make a dent on the minds of not only music buyers in Ghana, but beyond Ghana.
