Honor me for my immense contributions towards the music industry - Iwan to Charterhouse

Iwan Iwan

Award-winning Reggae/Dancehall musician, Iwan has said that Charterhouse, organizers of the VGMAs, should honour him for his immense contributions to the music industry over the last decade.

He made this known when he appeared on Entertainment Arena on Accra based Kingdom FM 107.7 hosted by Londona.

“Charterhouse is supposed to honour me,” he said.

Iwan who has 8 studio albums to his credit further stated that even though he is the first Ghanaian musician to do mainstream dancehall songs in English for others to follow, the respect he gets from the media is nothing to write home about.

“I was the first dancehall artiste to receive an award in Ghana but the industry is not paying attention to me”, he stressed out.

Also known as the ‘Lyrical Gunshot’ the graduate from the University of Ghana who doubles as a youth leader at Sowutuom a suburb of Accra lamented that a lot of songs currently on the musical market don’t make sense. “ A lot of musicians are playing and not doing music”.

When asked by the host Londona if he feels sidestepped by the media, the “12th September” composer did not mince words by saying “Ghanaians are known to pull each other down”. He also added that if you don’t belong to a certain group of people or don’t have a strong team then you will be left out alone.

Known in private life as Abdul Razak Issahaku, Iwan is gazetted to be the first person to be recognized in the fiercely contested reggae/dancehall category at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards.

Some of his awards include Best Reggae Album of the year{Bass Awards 2013}, Best Reggae Song of the Year at the 2011 VGMA.
