Ja Rule live in Ghana for Ghana Music Awards 2008

Ja RuleConfirmed information reaching Ghana Music.com is that hip hop Queens rapper, Jeffrey Atkins better known international as Ja Rule will making his debut appearance in Ghana as part of the ninth MTN Ghana Music Awards festival.

“We do not celebrate only Ghanaian music but also appreciate music internationally. Ghana Music Awards attracts a wide array of international audience each year”, the Media manager for charter house said.

“Our invitation of a foreign musician is in line with the aims of making the celebrations international known more and making it a festival that will attract the international music world. Foreign acts such as D’Banj and Jeff Bogologolo-Alhaji fame are a few to mention”, she continued.

Asked whether she is aware that Ja Rule is currently struggling to revamp with image with the media. Juno of Charter House Ghana said “I will not agree to that Ja Rule’s fame is down because according to a flash research conducted here in Ghana, Ghanaians are actually looking forward to his performance. Ja Rule as an entertainer has a lot to add to the MTN GMA festival that is why he was invited and yes his performance will definitely rock the Celebration jam. His latest releases like Body among others are making waves on the airwaves”.

“Ghanaians should expect star performance like no other. His performance is sure to keep the audience spell bound. Don’t forget that there will be other surprise performances by awards winners of MTN GMA and some international artistes on the same platform”, she concluded.

Ja Rule is expected to perform at the Awards Night (25th April) and the Beach Celebration Jam (26th April).

Ja Rule bounced onto the hip hop game with a hard core album dubbed Venni Vetti Vecci (1999)and followed it up with Rule 3:36 (2000) with songs like “Between Me” and “You”,” “Put It on Me, and “I Cry”. It was the beginning of Ja Rule going commercial with radio friendly songs. His collaboration with Bobby Brown of the The Last Temptation (2002) album was another success.

His latest single “Uh-Ohhh!”; featuring Lil Wayne, who is perhaps the hottest rapper of the moment failed to make it to the top on the billboard charts. A couple other singles (”Body,” “Sunset”) have also failed to garner significant airplay.

Hmmm, watch out for another article where I will be sampling comments of Ghanaian hip hop artistes, and DJs whether they think Ja Rule was a right choice for the MTN Ghana Music Awards.
