Kwaw Kese under fire

Kwaw Kese

Kwaw Kese, one of Ghana’s most popular hip-life artistes fondly called “Abodam” - as his award winning album states - has come under serious criticisms for throwing onto the floor the prestigious Award (a stool) that he was presented with during the just-ended Music Awards ceremony organised by the Arts Critics and Reviewers’ Association of Ghana. He did that in the studios of TV3, an independent television station in Accra.

According to him, the award was not given to him in a proper manner, adding that the organizers should have categorized it under Best Hip-life Artiste. He added that nothing was written on the stool neither was it polished.

Following this act, this reporter went to town and talked to a few people for their reactions.

An ACRAG member, Ernest Abbey-quaye, stated that he had regretted the way Kwaw Kese expressed his sentiments. He added that ACRAG had problems with sponsorship and that affected some aspects of what it set out to do.

“Some other people have commented that the finishing for the stool was not good enough, but we object to how the young man put his point across. I think that the single act of throwing the award away in the television studio was going overboard to express his displeasure with us.”

Some of his fans also expressed disappointment in his action. To them, he should have at least channeled it through the right authorities instead of dropping it.

Mavis Obeng, who said she was one of Kese’s fans, stressed that “the chap is now misbehaving because the awards he picked up at the GMA might have gotten into his head so much that he has no respect any more”,

In our previous interview, Mavis had chosen Kwaw instead of Batman Samini; however, she said she was disappointed in Kwaw Kesse currently and was turning to a more reformed Batman Samini”, Obour, who also received the same award, expressed surprise at what Kwaw Kesse said and cautioned him against such acts in the near future .

In his reaction, Fennic Okchere, Manager of Kwaw Kese, stressed on the same reason Kwaw gave, adding that his client deserved a better plaque, not a wooden object. “I know some of the award winners are cowed, they don’t want to accept the fact that the Award was bad,” he added.
