Let?s Support Copyright Office - Awuah

A US-based Ghanaian based Ghanaian artiste, Kwame B. Awuah, has called on Ghanaians and stakeholders in the copyright industry to rally behind the copyright office in its efforts to curb the increasing rate of piracy in Ghana.

In a telephone chat with Beatwaves, Mr. Awuah said piracy has killed creativity in the Ghanaian artiste and also destroyed the music industry, making investors lose huge sums of money.

According to him, the war against piracy in Ghana has been very challenging, but with determination the copyright office would win the war.

He expressed appreciation to the Ghana Association of Phonogram Industry (GAPI) and the various stakeholders, for their immense contribution in waging war against piracy.

He said the contribution of the industry to the nation's economy is huge, noting that ?piracy is a rape of the economy, which should not be allowed to exist?.

"Piracy is a battle we would win. We in the States support the anti-piracy campaign currently going on in Ghana," he said.Mr. Awuah said piracy is a battle being fought all over the world.

"We can fight it without firing a bullet; with the co-operation of all stakeholders, as well as musicians in the country".

He advised that the copyright office should not spare anyone caught dealing in pirated works, adding that they should make sure that the law deals with anyone caught in the act.
