MOGO - More fun, great memories

This year’s Music of Ghanaian Origin (MOGO) organized by CITI FM can be appropriately described as being full of fun and great memories.

Music enthusiasts who trooped to the National Theater in Accra had more fun than expected. Highlife genius C.K Mann, Mac Tontoh, Gyedu Blay Ambolley, Paapa Yankson and Paulina Oduro as well as Batman Samini and Kofi of The Battle fame took turns to unleash enthralling renditions.

The event, which is the third since its introduction, commenced at about 8pm with a curtain raiser act from the Ramblers International Band. Then came Kofi of The Battle fame, who won the admiration of the audience.

After, it was the turn of the highlife big-names; C.K Mann was the first to set the ball rolling, followed by a duet by Paapa Yankson and Paulina Oduro. Theirs was an interesting one but Paulina went backstage, leaving Paapa to do the rest. Rendition after rendition, he passed a comment that set the crowd reeling with laughter. Soon he had to give way to Mac Tontoh of Osibisa fame.

Mac who was joined by his masqueraders, performed exceptionally well, displaying his trumpeting skills. Unfortunately the masquerade gigs lasted only a short while.

The show became more exciting when the Simigwa Do singer, Nana Gyedu Blay Ambolley mounted the stage to charge the atmosphere with his song rendition coupled with his amusing dance techniques.

Even more exciting was the voice of MTN and Best Artiste of the year, Batman Samini. His appearance was one of a surprise as his name was not in the list of artistes billed for the night.

His performance attracted the loudest cheers from the auditorium. Even superb was his duet with Paulina Oduro. The event could not have been better without Daddy Lumba and Nana Acheampong of Lumba Brothers fame. Nana’s initial act did not create much excitement but after unleashing few songs the crowd began to roll with him.

He later introduced Daddy Lumba on stage, who also thrilled the audience with his hit songs in spite of minor technical hitches.

Daddy Lumba then brought Nana Acheampong back on stage and together they performed one of their big hits in the 80s, ‘Yeya Aka Akwentuom’.

Present at the programme were personalities like Hon. Nana Akomea, KKD, Fiifi Banson, KOD, Shirley Frimpong-Manso and many others.

The event was sponsored by MTN and Coca Cola.
