Melcom, stop using my songs for your advert - Wutah Afriyie

Wutah Afriyie, a member of the defunct music group, Wutah has taken supermarket chain Melcom Ghana Limited to the cleaners for still using a song he recorded for a radio and television commercial long after the contract he signed with the company ended.

In what is beginning to look like a clear case of intellectual property theft, Afriyie took to his Facebook page Thursday to issue a stern warning to the company.

“I am using this platform to make it known to owners of melcom Ghana, that whatever contract we had has expired so they should stop using the song I was contracted to record with immediate effect. If they still want to continue using it, they should do the right thing.”

Speaking to livefmghana.com Thursday afternoon, Afriyie said he signed a contract with Melcom Ghana Limited some years ago to have him produce a song, which will be used to create awareness about their products.

The contract has since ended, but the retail department stores he adds are still using the song for commercial purposes.

Afriyie tells livefmghana.com he is only getting to make this public since all efforts to get a mediator to help both parties agree on a decent compensation has proven futile.
