Mr. Root Eye, the crazy dance man on TV3 Music Music has revealed that he has joined Prime 89.1FM, Accra’s newest radio station and is likely to host the late afternoon show. What is unknown to many is that Mr. Root Eye has been a radio presenter for ten years on and off.
Mr. Root Eye started his media career as a radio presenter with Skyy Power 93.5FM in Takoradi in September, 1997 and took the western regional capital by storm and ruled the scene for the two years that he spent working with Skyy Power FM before he left for Kumasi to work with Ashh 101.1FM.
After working with Ashh FM between 1999 and 2005 he was poached by F. Giant Communications, operators of Fox 97.9FM when the company was setting up Hot 93.9FM in Accra.
After a year with Hot FM he left to set up Hyphaus, an advertising and PR Company that grooms and manages up and coming artistes. Some of the artistes he personally managed include “World Bank Music For Development Award” winner at the Ghana Music Awards, Reggy Zippy, KK Fosu and Mframa, to mention a few.
Root Eye’s radio experience in Accra includes a stint with Hitz 103.7FM where on two occasions he had to sit in for Blakk Rasta when the controversial reggae presenter who is also a musician had to honour an invitation to perform in the Netherlands.
“I remember when I used to watch Music Music on TV and dream of being on the show. Thanks to Paa Kwesi Ackom, producer/director of the show I had the opportunity to experience TV and believe me, although very challenging cos it’s live, and knowing that it’s the biggest family entertainment on TV in Ghana, it’s a very wonderful thing and I’m most grateful to Paa Kwesi Ackom and Mr. Sammy Adanu for the training, patience and tolerance.” Root Eye confessed.
Root Eye reiterates that his radio show on Prime 89.1FM would be one of a kind. “Of course, I’m aware of the fierce competition that exists in Accra as far as radio is concerned but I’m also aware of my strengths and believe that apart from having a broad knowledge of music, my show is gonna have some real intelligent talk that would appeal to all classes of people. All in all it’ll be a top quality entertainment for all”, he said.
Those who know the radio side of the dude who injected that fresh energy into TV3 Music Music with the crazy dance bit are really excited about the news of him going back to radio. You can catch him on Prime 89.1FM in mid November when the Abelemkpe based radio station commences full time business.
