Ever imagined one night with over 50 top music stars perform for 12-hours non-stop on one big stage?
The Musicians’ Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is making that possible as it plans a big concert to serve two purposes: Firstly, as a unifying pre-event towards its upcoming congress and, secondly, as farewell concert for the union’s outgoing president, Madam Diana Hopeson, whose promise to manage the Union for only one term since 2007, has been fulfilled.
For want of adequate space and security (for both party-goers and cars), the concert dubbed Musiga Pre-Congress Bash 2011 is scheduled for the Ghana Trade Fair Center at La on Saturday August 13, 2011 from 6pm till 6am.
Madam Diana Hopeson told Hi Newspaper on Tuesday afternoon that, “this concert will seek to bring together, as one family, for the last time under my management, musicians, their fans as well as persons (members) seeking Executive positions at the Union’s upcoming Congress”.
The upcoming congress which will elect a new President- among Obour, Gyedu-Blay Ambouley, Nana Tuffour and Willie Roy, is scheduled between August 16 and 18, for Tamale in the Northern region.
Artistes who, according to the union, have been approached to perform include Amakye Dede, Gyedu Blay Amboulley, A.B Crentsil, Amanzeba, Felix owusu, Bessa Simon, K.K Fosu among many more highlife greats.
The Hiplife sect is expected to be represented by V.I.P, 4X4, Obour, Okyeame Kwame, Tic Tac, Ayigbe Edem, Tinny, Richie, Atumpan, D-Cryme, Samini, Bandana, Iwan, Chizzy Wailer, Black Rasta and many more.
While gospel stars including No Tribe, Cecilia Marfo, D.S.P. Kofi Sarpong, Lady Prempeh etc are expected to open the concert. “A token entry fee will be charged to support congress activities”, our Musiga source says.
King of drive-time radio, Abeiku Santana of Okay FM will be the main host; while Dj Pesewa of Groove Control Niteclub and Radio Gold will be in charge of music.
