Mzbel, the sexy songtress

Gender balance is what almost every lady is fighting for after the Beijing Conference and Mzbel is no exception. She realized the limited number of ladies doing circular music and decided to bridge that gab.

Her real name is Nana Akua Amoah and hails from Mankessim in the Central Region.

The sexy songstress attended Morning star, Owusu Mills, JSS, Abuakwa State College, and Institute of Languages and Manifold Tutorial College where she studied TV and Film Production.

Is the Twenty four (25) year old hiplife queen making the most out of the fact that she is probably the only female artiste actively doing circular music? Well find out from this exclusive chit chat.

Weekly Fylla: Would u say u were born with the talent as most artiste say?

Mzbel: No I wouldn’t say that because I never had any dream of becoming a musician. All along I wanted to become a broadcaster but music just came from no where, so I don’t know if I should call it talent or hard work.

Weekly Fylla: How did u enter in music?

Mzbel: I was employed at Hush Hush studios to as a production assistance but at that time the studio was very new and people were not patronizing it, so I took advantage of it and recorded my first album “Awoso me” which even became bigger than I expected. I followed it up second album and I’m now into serious music business.

Weekly Fylla: How do you see yourself in the business?

Mzbel: I think I’m doing well, its fun and I couldn’t believe the response my first album had it was amazing. That is what has kept me going. The future is bright.

Weekly Fylla: As a lady how do you compete with the guys?

Mzbel: Well is not easy but I study their movement on stage, the way they rap, their chorus, the way they dress and I try to do more than that as a lady. For instant if you listen to my first album I was a little soft but you clearly see the difference with my second album. I think I’m even doing better than some of them.

Weekly Fylla: Do you face any problems working with guys?

Mzbel: Yes some of the guys look down on me. They think what I’m doing can’t take me anywhere. If there is a show and my name is mentioned they think there is nothing better I can do. Some see me and they can’t even say hi but some are really nice to me.

Weekly Fylla: Did you work with any broadcasting company before coming into music?

Mzbel: After my education I did an attachment with TV3 as production assistant and a floor manager, I with Metro TV as producer for Smash TV and later as an editor before I came to Hush Hush.

Weekly Fylla: Does it mean you have forgotten about Broadcasting now that you are into music?

Mzbel: For now I think I’m enjoying music so I really can’t tell. May be as time goes on things might change but at this moment I’m enjoying the music business.

Weekly Fylla: Are you also into acting now?

Mzbel: A few movie producers I believe saw me on TV or on stage and thought I was the best person to play specific roles in their movies I gave it a try it was good. Music is what I have decided to do so any other thing that comes with I think I’m ready for it.

Weekly Fylla: Are you married?

Mzbel:( laughs) No! I’m not married.

Weekly Fylla: Anytime soon?

Mzbel: I can’t tell lets just keep our fingers crossed.

Weekly Fylla: what makes you different from other female artists?

Mzbel: I think I’m very creative and hardworking because apart from singing I also do serious arts as in drawing and painting.

Weekly Fylla: How long would you want to do music?

Mzbel: I wanted to do music until I’m thirty(30) because I believe by then I will be married with children so I would have to concentrate on my family but am still fit and free I’ll continue but may in gospel or highlife.

Weekly Fylla: what is your favorite food?

Mzbel: Hot rice with thick palm nut soup.

Weekly Fylla: Any hobbies?

Mzbel: Yes I really enjoy swimming and talking.

Weekly Fylla: Who do you look up to as a role model?

Mzbel: I take a lot of inspiration from Destiny’s child and Jennifer Lopez

Weekly Fylla: Is that why you try to dress like them?

Mzbel: I don’t think I dress like them I just dress like I want to.

Weekly Fylla: Don’t you think you expose yourself too much?

Mzbel: No don’t think so.

Weekly Fylla: Finally what would you tell Ghanaians?

Mzbel: I love everybody even my enemies and I thank everybody for accepting me when I first came on the music scene. I studied them and I know what they want I will keep giving it to them. They should go and grab copies of my songs because I did it for them.
