Breaking through in the Ghanaian music industry is not and has not always been easy. It takes a lot of hard work or luck and sometimes a combination of both to reach the top. But when you possess a unique style and a positive attitude, then as Naeto C will coin it, it’s a ‘ten over ten’ chance that you’ll make it.
This statement can be referred to the new prince of GH music as he would preferably like to be tagged and he goes by the name, JaGa. “I call myself the Prince because I believe I am the heir to the throne of GH music”, he said.
JaGa is not absolutely new on the Ghanaian music scene and he is equally far from being main stream. He says he is now ready to take his music to another level following the positive feedback he received after the release of his debut mixtape titled “Testing Mic” somewhere last year. “I was amazed at the response I got from both home and abroad. Though the songs were exclusively released on the internet, some found their way into the rotation of a couple of radio stations, and for me that was very encouraging”, he revealed.
JaGa is currently working on his second pre-album mixtape which he christens “Gettin’ Ready”. The eight-track mixtape which cuts across genres is set to be released before the end of the year and will feature artistes such as Stay Jay, Bradez, Cabum and Lousika.
The first single off the mixtape is due for release on radio this week. The song “Let’s Roll” which deviates from the current music trend is a mid-tempo Hip Hop/RnB track which is bound to steal your attention from beginning to end. “You see, the music industry is currently choking and we definitely need a breather and some freshness. Azonto and party songs have monopolized the air waves so we definitely need someone with a new and unique style, and that is where I come in”, he intimated.
JaGa says he believes GH music has the potential to go international if only we produce quality works and package them right. “And that is exactly what am doing, I try to make sure my songs are world class because in this day and age the world should be your target audience”’ he added. JaGa is currently on set shooting the video for his new single “Let’s Roll”.
