Okyeame Kwame, Kwabena Kwabena and other top music stars to perform at MPEG

The maiden edition of the Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana (MPEG) Honours is set to pack a blistering line up of top performers when the much talked about event takes place at the National Theatre later this month. A lot of effort is being put into the arrangement of having on the stage some of the leading Ghanaian musicians and bands to perform at the event as the maiden MPEG event would be a night full of music, dance, comedy and everything entertainment. The event which is scheduled to take place at the National Theatre in Accra on March 19 would create the platform for some of the biggest local artistes to perform to live band music for the enjoyment of patrons.

One of the leading local rap musicians Okyeame Kwame would be mounting the stage to wow the audience with his unique brand of hiplife music on the night. It is the belief of the organisers that a high profile event such as MPEG should have the top range of musicians like Okyeame Kwame to ensure that patrons get their money’s and time’s worth and to also prove the point that he is still the best rapper alive.

Also to perform at the MPEG event is the talented Kwabena Kwabena, whose brand of highlife music has been setting the pace for younger musicians to also choose that line of music, would also be on the stage to perform some of his beautiful and romantic songs. Another artiste who the organisers are very happy to have agreed to perform at MPEG is the silky-voiced Kofi B. Every highlife lover would agree that Kofi B is among the few artistes who are very gifted with a unique voice and could sing well to excite his audience than most others. He would mount the stage at MPEG to show that he is still the man with the silkiest voice alive.

A few songs became extremely popular in the year 2010 and one of the popular, if not the most popular, songs was African Girls by Castro featuring Asamoah Gyan. Castro has given assurance to the organisers that although he would be performing in The Netherlands earlier in the month he would make it here in time to perform African Girls and some of his other hit songs to the crowd.

Rough and Smooth gained a lot of fans when their songs Swagger and Sex Machine became very popular from late 2009 through 2010 and they have since gained entry into that “exclusive club” of top hiplife stars in the country. The duo has been billed to perform at MPEG as well.

An all ladies jazz band has been in Ghana for a while now and has been treating patrons to the premier jazz club in Accra +233 to wonderful jazz music on Wednesday nights. Della Hayes and her ladies (Women of Colour) would be on hand to treat patrons to some of their wonderful tunes when MPEG comes to town.

Another band, perhaps the greatest gospel music band to emerge from this country, Joyful Way Incorporated would be performing at this high profile event. Having successfully hosted another great show last December and released a new album as well, Joyful Way is poised to move the audience at MPEG on to a higher praise session.

There is also Bertha that beautiful voiced songbird who happens to be the reigning winner of the Stars of the Future reality show. Bertha has performed at some of the biggest shows in town and mounting the stage at MPEG and singing to the joy of the audience would add to that collection.

MPEG is a cross-discipline honours event established to ensure that professionals in the various fields of music, film acting, television acting, theatre, football, boxing, comedy, radio and television broadcasting are commended for their services to the people of Ghana every year.

Apart from being decorated on the night of the event with this enviable honour each nominee also stands the chance of being chosen by the general public through SMS and online voting as the Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana in the year under review. That would make the individual Ghana’s topmost entertainer for the next one year.

The MPEG College has chosen a list of honourees in all categories and from which the public would vote to choose the person they consider as being the Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana. They include Asamoah Gyan (Most Entertaining Football Personality ), Joseph Agbeko (Most Entertaining Boxing Personality), Kofi Adu (Agya Koo) (Most Entertaining Film Acting Personality), Andrew Adote (Most Entertaining Stage Acting Personality) and Funny Face (Most Entertaining Comedy Personality).

The public is encouraged to vote for their favourite among the above list to be crowned on March 19 as the Most Popular Entertainer of Ghana by adding GH to the name of the favourite and sending to short code 1736 across all networks or voting at www.mpeghonours.com.
