The popular contemporary highlife star, Ofori Amponsah, last Saturday, took home ¢60 million worth of air time, a plaque, three months supply of Gordon’s Spark drink and three boxes of Lux beauty soap in a special public voting to select the Joy FM Music Star of the Year, as a side attraction to the fifth edition of A Nite With the Stars held at the Accra International Conference Centre.
The event which set the nation’s capital agog with fun and excitement had the main hall of the AICC packed to the extent that a good number of the audience had to be on their feet throughout the show.
Artistes billed for the show made the night a memorable one as they gave their audience exactly what they had come for.
They included Wulomei, C.K. Mann, A.B Crenstil, Batman, Wutah, Ofori Amponsah, Praye, Obour, Mzbel, Lucky Mensah, Kofi Nti, 4X4, Tagoe Sisters and Pastor Josh Laryea.
Ten out of the fifteen artistes performed with a live band. They mounted the stage at different points during the show and put up spectacular performances that made them the toast of the crowd.
Wulomei set the pace for the evening’s show with their beautiful performances followed by Pastor Josh Laryea and the Tagoe sisters who mounted the stage in their own styles and blessed the audience with their songs.
The crowd’s level of excitement could not be missed when hiplifer, Batman stole the show with captivating tunes from his upcoming album.
His refreshing performance prompted the enthusiastic participation of the audience who could hardly stay in their seats.
When he performed Linda, one of his very popular songs, everybody in the hall got up cheering and swinging. Shyness was out of the question, the ladies danced however they wanted to do and did not seem to care who was watching.
Rita Marley joined Batman on stage and did a splendid performance together which him to loud cheers from the crowd.
Wutah as usual entertained patrons with popular songs from their album including Goose Gander which most of the ladies sang and danced to.
Ofori Amponsah, whose presence always generates so much excitement, got the audience screaming when he was announced until he mounted the stage with Kofi Nti and Barosky to perform.
Lucky Mensah, Obour, Praye, 4X4, Mzbel and the others proved their mettle when each of them gave a presentation that went down well with the audience.
Adding some spice to the show, Ghana’s number one D.J, D.J Black of Joy FM set the hall ablaze with his music mixes during the show and at the after -party.
