“Please Shine Your Own Stars”-P-Square

Twin Nigerian Stars Peter and Paul Okoye of P-Square fame have urged Ghanaian event organizers, promoters, the media and the Ghanaian public in general, to promote and cherish their stars more than those from other countries to give them international exposure.

The duo made this selfless statement as their parting words to their Ghanaian fans after a splendid performance in the Dome at the Accra International Conference centre during the Vodafone “020Live” concert on Saturday May 22, 2010.

Peter told the crowd “I have a piece of advice for everybody here and I want you to listen very carefully. Before we leave the stage, I want to tell all of you to respect and promote the stars in Ghana. I want to see a time when Ghanaian musicians will headline big shows in Nigeria and other countries”, he emphasized.

He said nobody else can promote us if we do not promote ourselves as Africans and cherish our own. Peter went on to say that they have been able to reach where they are now because of the support Nigerian media and organizers gave to them.

The duo made a similar statement during a press conference at the Africa Regent Hotel in Accra on Friday May 21, 2010 prior to the main event. There they urged the media men present to project Ghanaian stars positively.

“We have traveled to most African countries and to be honest with you there is something we have realized. We don’t want P-Square to be always headlining concerts in Africa. We want Ghanaians for example to headline concerts too and you guys in the media must give them hundred percent support no matter what because today Nigerian media put us there”, Peter Okoye told the media.

The duo was best performers on the night and the only artistes who performed with a live band. They performed for over two hours nonstop on stage. The ladies couldn’t help but scream, dance and sang along as they dropped their repertoire of songs one after the other.

Along their performance, they threw their designer belts, vests and shirts in the crowd for any lucky person to catch. The ladies even went crazy when they performed topless with their Hit song “Ino Easy” which features J. Martins.

They thanked the fans for supporting them since 2003 when they released their first album. The duo told reporters that they wanted to perform about three to four hours but the crowd looked tired and exhausted.

P-Square remains the only artiste that has scored platinum with all the past three albums including their latest album “Danger”. Their debut album “Last Nite” was released in 2003 made the duo a household name in Nigeria.

They followed it up with their second album titled “Get Squared” in July 2005 with hits like “Temptation” and “Busy Body”. In November 2007 P-Square released their third award winning platinum album titled “Game Over” with hit songs like “Do Me” and “Roll it”. They received more accolades for their style and their collection of breath taking music videos.

At the just ended Kora All Africa Music Awards 2010 held in Burkina Faso, P-Square won the top most award “Best Artiste of the Year” with an ultimate cash prize of 1million Dollars.

The group has been nominated for newly created “Best International Act” category for this year’s Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards to be held in the United States of America.
