Reggae meets Homowo on the beach

The Royal Gulf Club on the Old Winneba Road, opposite the Goil filling station at Korle Gonno will officially launch its regular Friday night Reggae Deluxe programme tomorrow at 7.00pm to coincide with this year’s Homowo celebrations.

Reggae Deluxe is a ‘bashment’ and sound system session featuring an array of disc jockeys, comperes and reggae presenters from the radio stations. The programme is a platform for promoting reggae music and artistes as well as reggae merchandise.

Tomorrow’s event, according to Reggae Deluxe team member Fred Dred of Kente Band fame, will be a live act affair with Black Prophet, the Vibration Kings and Mawuli Nukpese’s Real Roots Anabo Band.

Fred himself will exhibit a bit of what made Kente the reggae band of choice in the 1990s. The programme will be introducd by Prime I of Radio Gold.

“Reggae has a lot of potential because the youth are now discovering it and there is a lot that we can do to make it grow positively in Ghana,”says Fred Dred who is also a producer with Reggae Foundation International.

The Royal Gulf Club is a spacious tourist beach resort with an open air theatre and facilities for various ball games. The Royal Studio there has a wide collection of reggae, ragga, hip hop and dancehall material.
