In Ghana certain names became house hold names not through music, but through other means like radio and commercials. For some people those people are multi talented and can do anything to fetch them their income.
For a show that was not too popular among the Ghanaian, suddenly becoming a must watch show on MNET, talking about the Big Brother Show normally held in South Africa. That should tell you how well this Big Brother contestant, radio presenter, voice over king for commercials turned musician ‘SAMMI B’ has grown over the past decade in the entertainment industry.
Looking sweet in his blue stripped shirt, blue straight jeans with his Timberland watch to match, Entertainment in Ghana.com caught up with Sammi B at his manager’s office POP OUT inside Busy Internet, where he granted us the all exclusive interview. Sammi B granting his second interview and first for an entertainment website which happens to be Entertainment In Ghana, was easy and pleased to talk to me.
My first question was ’How has the transition been like after leaving the Big Brother House’. Well I think the transition has being great so far, after big brother I just decided to stay away from radio and concentrate on my music. More also because I am promoting this album myself, I really need to take some time out and get things in order. Sammi B’s explained.
He (Sammi B) went on to say ‘the music industry is not something new to me, I have being doing it for God knows how long and so I am doing well with it. Sammi B’s latest album is titled ‘PASSIN THRU’, one which is not named after a track on the album, so I asked him why passing thru.
Hmmm, is very simple actually, it just like how any other artiste has his signature, Passing Thru has always being my signature. Majority of the songs that I feature on, I quickly say Sammi B is quickly passin thru, yeah! So I felt people will easily identify me with that in my first major album… Sammi B added.
To add to that, he (Sammi B) also said that the album has got eight tracks, with two videos that is ‘Tongue Tie and Water Pompi. Actually Tongue tie has being airing for some time now, so my team is introducing the Water Pompi video.
Sammi tell us has Ghanaians really accepted your kind of music and first of what kind of music does Sammi B do? “I do African Music” I did not want to limit myself to only Ghanaian music, so I did the song for all Africans and I really think because I have being at the back ground I have a fair observation of how far this album is doing. So I will say Yes, Ghanaians have accepted me as Sammi B. … he lamented.
The story got interesting us we spoke on his performance rate, to distribution and what he does if he is not Sammi B (like if he is at home), find out more in part two of this story.
