Sidney Returns With New Name

The leader of a gang of armed robbers who attacked a popular hiplife artiste, Nana Akua Amoah, alias Mzbel, at her New Gbawe residence last year has been arrested.

The suspect, Kojo Aboagye, alias Joe, 26, who was declared wanted by the police after the incident, was arrested at his hideout at Korle Gonno last Friday following a tip-off.

Joe admitted the offence during interrogation and said he committed the crime with the three who were earlier arrested but broke jail and escaped.

According to the Accra Regional Crime Officer, Chief Superintendent Boi-Bi-Boi, on September 12, 2006, the four suspects, Munkaila Tahiru, Kennedy Agbozo, Emmanuel Agozie and Kojo Aboagye, attacked Mzbel and one of her dancers, Bernice Botsway, at the artiste?s house at New Gbawe.

He said the robbers, wielding pistols, knives and clubs, made away with her laptop, digital cameras, two DVD players, both local and foreign currencies and other valuables.

He said the robbers sexually assaulted Mzbel and one of her two dancers who were with her in the house at the time of the incident.

Mr Boi-Bi-Boi said on October 27, 2006 Mzbel identified three of her attackers at the La Pleasure Beach and raised an alarm, which led to their arrest.

The Crime Officer said the robbers were detained at the Odorkor Police cells for further investigations but the three threw pepper into the eyes of the policeman on duty and managed to escape.

He said the police had mounted an intensive search for the arrest of the suspects who were believed to be hiding in the country.

Mr Boi-Bi-Boi, therefore, appealed to any member of the public with information which would lead to the arrest of the jail breakers to report at the Regional Police Command or the nearest police station and assist in investigations.
