Stevie Wonder Live In Accra

Steve Wonder live in Ghana One of America?s celebrated musicians, Stevie Wonder is set to perform on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at the Accra International Conference Centre in what has been dubbed ?The Stevie Wonder Benefit Concert?.

The concert which is organised by the Busia Foundation International (BFI) is in aid of under-privileged children and also to honour the musician who is a dedicated philanthropist and humanitarian.

According to Akosua Busia, the Chairperson of the BFI, proceeds from the concert will be donated to the BFI Mobile Library Drive, which will provide under-privileged children in the country with access to books and computers. This will be done via a mobile library that will drive through various communities.

In addition to Stevie?s performance and with support from other local artistes, the winner of the competition for singers who are able to sing Stevie Wonder?s song will perform on stage with the singer.

Stevie Wonder is a legendary artist, songwriter, musician and producer who has been making music and enriching people?s lives for more than three decades.

Nominated for a Grammy award 62 times, he has won twenty-one of them as well as the Grammy Life-time Achievement Award and has demonstrated extraordinary humanitarian efforts, philanthropic leadership and generosity of spirit throughout his career, most notably in Africa.

From ?Little Stevie Wonder? to adult superstar, Stevie is beloved for monumental talent, his compassion for humanity and his desire to challenge injustice.

In 1983, he spearheaded the realisation of ?Martin Luther King Day? as a national holiday. His participation in the massive 1985 We Are the World fund-raiser for hunger in Africa was a music industry milestone, while his involvement to put an end to apartheid in South Africa is legendary.

Stevie, in conjunction with America Express, led a ?Charge Against to Hunger? by raising over $150 million to feed nearly six million hungry Americans yearly. The SAP/Stevie Wonder Vision Awards recognises technological innovations that assimilate blind and the visually impaired into the work force.

He has been recognised for his philanthropic contributions by receiving numerous awards, including: ?The Distinguished Services Award? from the Presidents Committee on Employment of handicapped People, the ?Carousel of Hope Award? from the Children Diabetes Foundation, an ?Honorary Global Founders Awards? from Mother Against Drunk Driving among others. He was also named ?Musicares Person of the Year? in 1999.

He has teemed up with artistes such as Roberta Flack, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Elton John, Gladys Knight, Dionne Warwick, Chaka Khan, Paul McCartney, Quincy Jones, Julio Igesias, Bill Cosby, Spike Lee and many others in concerts and fund-raising events to highlight social and political commitments and issues.

Being the first recording artist to simultaneously reach Number One on the Billboard Hot 100, R&B Singles and Album Charts, Stevie has amassed an amazing career that includes 49 top singles, 25 number one singles, world-wide sales of over 100 million units and an Academy for I Just Call To Say I Love You from the 1984 movie The Woman In Red.
