Twenty years ago, a 40-year-old man, Francis Dennis Arthur Baidoo, thought he had what it took to record some songs for an album and came down to Accra to do just that.
Twenty years on, he was still struggling to achieve his aim, until he met Humble Lion a.k.a., Prince Afotey Laryea whose studio Nycenoyce, has been giving opportunities to new musicians to explore their talents.
The studio located at Odorkor, has recorded a demonstration tape of eight gospel songs and hymns for Arthur Baidoo who sang all parts by himself to be used in searching for a producer at no cost to him.
According to Humble Lion, as a musician he knows the pains and difficulties musicians suffer to have their works recorded, so it is the policy of his studio to assist very talented musicians to make it.
“Knowing the constraints in producing a demo and bearing in mind the problems I faced in my early days, I feel I owe it a duty to the youth to make it a little easier for them in their quest to hit the mark.” He added.
Humble Lion also said currently, he has two JSS boys who come for tutelage in their spare time and hopes to record them as soon as they complete school in order not to disturb their courses.
Sounding philosophical, Humble Lion said that in life it should be one’s duty to help someone to achieve an aim in his or her small way.
It would be like helping yourself, for if you smile at someone you get a smile in return. “If you do good, good will follow you.” He said.
Humble Lion has also finished a compilation of songs at his studio, with four young men all of who have come out with wonderful hiplife songs which, he has fused into his own brand of highlife music, which he now calls Biglife because the sound is big.
The four, Phlex, Nyinsen, Magnet and Bonfire who featured on all the songs, have their individual and unique talents which Humble Lion has exploited to create the twelve song compilation which also features Humble Lion.
Songs on the compilation include Penpenaa, Abronoma, Shordy, Kae, Abrantie and Obaa Gbemi Lo? They were all programmed by Humble Lion and mixed by Kanada at Nycenoyce studio.
Humble Lion who says that he expects to have four albums by next year, comprising a reggae, a biglife, a local R&B and one traditional highlife, has two albums to his credit Super Natural Dzama and Baa Jo.
According to him the compilation will soon hit the airwaves.
