Charter House, a subsidiary company of Multiple Concepts and organizer of some of the biggest events in Ghana including Ghana Music Awards, has for the first time spoken openly about their perceived squabble with Tema based Hiplife group R2Bees.
Mr. Nii Aryetey Hammond, Head of Production, who spoke on behalf of the company, was reacting to an allegation made by Kwaw Kese on Peace FM’s “Entertainment Review”, that R2Bees were not nominated in this year’s Ghana Music Awards because Charter House has a problem with the group.
“If you are going to fight and you know you are not strong, then you try to get people to follow you to go and fight. If Kwaw Kese is fighting his fight and he is losing, he should not bring R2Bees in at all, because R2Bees are not in contention this year...and if indeed we had any problem with R2Bees like Kwaw is saying, we won’t pay them to perform on the nomination Jam in Takoradi on 6th March,” Nii emphasized.
According to Kwaw Kese, the group had a confrontation with one of the Charter House workers during one of their events. Because of this, Mugees a member of the group who was supposed to perform with Sarkodie, could not go on stage.
Since then, Charter House has "black-listed" the group.
But Nii flatly refuted the allegation and pointed out that Charter House as a company, does not deal with any personality but they deal with issues, “So if there was an issue at a point in time, which was a direct issue with R2Bees, we had to deal with it. We dealt with it and it ended there. It has nothing to do with the personalities because we are running a business entity; we are not running a jealousy activity”.
The said incident occured at the Accra International Conference Center on December 27, 2009, during the “Ghana Rock” event, when Mugees who featured on Sarkodie’s “Baby” track, was supposed to perform the song with Sarkodie. According to information available to peacefmonline, Mugees was supposed to come alone and not as a group but he arrived at the venue with other people.
This created a misunderstanding at the entrance, between Mugees and George Quaye (Aboagye) of Charter House, who was in charge of the artistes on that day.
After a couple of verbal exchanges between the two, Aboagye offered to allow Mugees alone to enter to join Sarkodie on stage, but Mugees insisted that if he (Aboagye) did not allow him to enter with the other people, then he won’t perform.
Meanwhile, R2Bees performed at Afrodisac night club last Saturday for the GMA nominees party and they are expected to perform their hit song “Kiss your hand” with sensational Nigerian singer Wande Coal on the main awards night come Saturday April 10, at the Conference Center.
