The 19th edition of the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) will take place TODAY, April 14 at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
The award scheme is organised by Charterhouse to reward deserving Ghanaian artistes for their hard work, dedication and contribution towards the growth of Ghana’s music industry.
The awards ceremony which is expected to attract a large number of stakeholders in the creative arts industry in Ghana and Nigeria in the last couple of years, the highlight of the night has been who wins the much-coveted category – Artiste of the Year.
It’s a free world and nothing bars anybody from openly supporting and predicting who stands the best chance of clinching that honour.
Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, the late Ebony, rapper Sarkodie and Joe Mettle are all up for the coveted artiste of the year award.
The category definition for the VGMA Artiste of the Year states that: “Artiste of the Year is the Artiste(s) adjudged by the Academy, Board and the General Public as the Artiste(s) with the highest audience appeal and popularity. The Artiste(s) must have released a hit single/album during the year under review.”
In 2017 Gospel musician, Joe Mettle made history when he won the prestigious “Artiste o f the Year. He has simply broken a jinx that has been hanging over the Ghana Music Awards.
He became the first gospel artiste to win the Artiste of the Year award since the inception of the awards in 2000.
Will Ebony set a new record for all female artistes if she grabs the ultimate award? What about Sarkodie, Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy, who equally deserve the artiste of the year award.
