Here’s the debut single by International all-female group GRRRL. Taken from the EP, ‘Woyale’ was released via Delayed Records & Barrio Electric.
A landmark music partnership between Ghana’s Wiyaala, Speech Debelle, Nono Nkoane, Lei Di Dai, Sohini Alam AWA – African Women Arise, and Afrodeutsche, GRRRL is converged by ‘In Place of War’, a global organisation that supports artistic creativity in places of conflict as a tool for positive change.
Described as “a bespoke electronic music collaboration between independent, revolutionary women artists from around the world, coming together to tell their collective stories of life, conflict, inequality and change through music”, GRRRL fuses sounds of dark techno, ghetto bass, hip hop, dancehall, reggae, soul and electronica.
The music project is directed by Brazil’s Laima Leyton (Mixhell/Soulwax), and accompanying visuals, filmed on the cliff top at Mosman -Australia, were directed by Adam Singer.
