Accra, Aug. 6, GNA - The community teams of Burma Camp, Labadi, Cantonments and Dansoman recorded successes in the opening matches at the Indomie Community Dunks Basketball competition, played on Saturday, August 4, at the Community Youth Cultural Center (CYCC), Maamobi, Accra.
The military community of Burma Camp put up an amazing display to thump Ridge 43-20 to take the top spot in Group B, even though they were given a good match in the first quarter where they trailed 14-12.
But as the game progressed into the third and fourth quarter, Burma Camp improved on their performance to maintain their stronghold of the game and eventually won it to the admiration of the fans.
In the other group game, Cantonments defeated Nima-Maamobi 26-22 to pick the second spot at the close of the first week.
Debutants, Labadi and Adabraka communities engaged in an exciting game in Group A, which ended 22-20, whilst Dansoman run riot over a relatively young side, James Town community by whipping them 24-11 to end the first week of the three-week competition.
The competition, which enters the second week, on Saturday, August 11, will see Labadi taking on James Town, whilst Dansoman could seal their passage to the semis with a victory over Adabraka.
Nima-Maamobi will come up against Burma Camp, with Ridge needing to pick themselves up against rivals Cantonments to gain some qualification.
The two top teams from each group will qualify for the grand-finale on September 1.
