Ghana to participate in Africa Bodybuilders Champs

Accra, Nov 28, GNA - Seven bodybuilders would leave Ghana, on Sunday, December 2, for Algeria to participate in the 2007 edition of the Africa Bodybuilding championship.

The championship is slated for December 4-8.

The bodybuilders would be led by Christian Antoh alias "King Sabato" winner of the recent National Muscleflavour Man Ghana Bodybuilding Championship.

Other members of the team include Mustapha Richardson, Yaw Azurri, Cornelius Ankrah, Eric Antoh and Arnold Aryee. Their participation in the championship would, however, depend largely on the decision of the Algerian Embassy in Ghana to grant them visas.

Abdul Haaye-Yartey, Chairman of the Ghana Bodybuilding and Fitness Association (GBFA) would lead the delegation with Michael Ankrah and George Forster Baffour, members of the GBFA. The Chairman in an interview with the GNA Sports said their major aim in the competition is to improve upon their last performance when they placed eighth in the competition held in Egypt. He said the chance of the team has also been buoyed by the just ended national championship which served as preparatory grounds in readiness for the bodybuilders.

Haaye-Yartey said the seven builders are in good shape and poised to make the nation proud, adding that Ghana would be among the best four at the end of the 16-nation championship. He called on corporate bodies to support the association and body builders in the country since Ghana stands the chance of making a major impact in the sport.
